Results from the Australian Zone 3 Nationals, 2002

Team competition was 11 teams of 5 players plus substitutes. Main part of team competition was 165 games; each team played 30 games. Each team played every other team 9 times. 3 victory points for 1st; 2 for 2nd; 1 for 3rd.

Semifinals was an Ascension: bottom 3 teams play, loser is eliminated, next team up comes in, 3 teams play, loser is eliminated, etc. Top team before semifinals (Canberra) got a free ride through to the finals.

Finals was a 3 game series, with the top team before semifinals (Canberra) plus the top two teams after semifinals (Hobart and Campbelltown). Ranking was on total score, not victory points.

Doubles was 39 teams of 2, played in a series of rounds, with teams being eliminated each round. Round 2 was special: it was a second-chance round for those that had failed the first round. Each game had 6 to 9 teams in the arena, varying from round to round.

The top n teams from each game were carried through to the next round -- no comparison was made between different games within a round. Thus, Phoenix and Suicidal Chicken were eliminated in Round 4 because they came 7th out of 9 teams in their game; even though they scored higher than many other teams in the other, much lower scoring, round 4 game.

Finals was a 3 game series. Ranking was on total score. All 8 teams played in all 3 games.

Solos was 72 players, played in a series of rounds, with players being eliminated each round. Again round 2 was special: it was a second-chance round for those that had failed the first round. Each game had 12 to 18 players in the arena, varying from round to round. Finals was a 3-game series, with all 18 players playing all 3 games.
